Here at Tipton Bail Bond Store, we are never really surprised when our clients have questions about bail and bail bonds. It is completely understandable. Bail is not something that people like to talk about, because it relates too closely to getting arrested, and no one wants to think about a friend or family member getting arrested. This is why we have no problem answering our clients’ questions about bail. Here are just a few of the questions that we can answer for you.
- What’s the difference between bail and a bail bond?
Bail is determined by a judge and is the amount of money that needs to be paid in cash to get your friend or family member out of jail. Bail must be paid all at once to the court before your loved one can be released. A bail bond is determined off the price of a bail, which in California is 10% of the bail cost. This can be paid with any method that is convenient for you, and can be paid off over the course of a few years. There are many other differences, but these are the biggest ones. - What is better, a bail agent or a bail bondsman?
These 2 titles sound like they refer to different professionals, but they really mean the same exact thing. A bail agent and a bail bondsman are the same thing. - What is a co-signer?
A co-signer is someone who is willing to sign for your loved one’s release. The signer is promising that all the money for the bail bond will be paid and that their loved one will go to all of his or her court dates. A co-signer essentially takes responsibility for their loved one’s release. - Who can bail out my friend?
Anyone who cares about your friend can bail him or her out of jail. You do not have to be related to someone to bail them out of jail. - Do I need to give a collateral?
Most bail bonds at Tipton Bail Bond Store does not need collateral since we use your signature as collateral. However, for larger bails, starting around $100,000, you may need to put down something as collateral. This varies from case to case and depends greatly on the co-signers.
